I like BASEN, but Boston ACTS and Boston NOW have a nice pop to them, plus they are portable (e.g. Chicago ACTS).
ReplyDeleteI was leaning toward BLinks when we discussed the names in class. This is because I honestly think the message that we want to come across (about what we're doing) is very clear.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I actually think that OurBlock.org is interesting, too. It's catchy and has a hidden meaning that is relevant to what we are doing. Also, the name is fresh in the area of what we are doing... as oppose to names that have words like "links" or "connect" directly.
I personally don't like BASEN that much because it doesnt really have any meaning just as a word like that. It doesn't give any sense of a network or community.
ReplyDeleteI think that I would pick Boston ACTS or BLINK (in that order) for a name because they capture what we're trying to do in a word form. I feel like Boston ACTS gives an upbeat, active type feeling while BLINK is catchy and also a fast feeling word.
Hey all,
ReplyDeleteI'm personally liking BLink and OurBlock the most right now. A couple of points:
1. Both of them are names that we can progress into a more public version. BLink has "B" for Boston in the name, but if it all works out, I think people would accept it as a more universally located site.
2. The specific address ourblock.org is taken, so we'd have to somehow find a way around that. Try not to mention it on here, though, as there could easily be robots annoyingly searching through sites for unregistered domain names to snatch them before we have a chance.
3. The negatives of the two are that BLink doesn't necessarily fit the intended purpose (it sounds like maybe an online strobe light simulator) and OurBlock sounds a bit too generic. That being said, if these are the biggest drawbacks of the names, I think we're in a good position.
I'm probably going to choose one at random for the next version of the mockups, but that obviously does not make it final.
